SCHOOL OF PARALEGAL STUDIES IN PRETORIA

The South African School of Paralegal Studies (Gauteng) was established in Pretoria and Randburg in 2000 as a franchise enterprise of the South African School of Paralegal Studies. The first South African School of Paralegal Studies was established in Cape Town in 1992 to provide specialised legal training for legal support staff, legal assistants, legal secretaries and paralegals in general.

The South African School of Paralegal Studies (Gauteng) is registered with the Department of Education as a “Private Further Education and Training Institutions”.

DURATION OF COURSES

The duration of a single short certificate course is one term, i.e. 3 months.

The duration of the diploma courses (Senior Paralegal Diploma and Commercial Law Diploma) may vary depending on the student’s personal circumstances and commitments elsewhere. The shortest period for the completion of any of the Diploma Courses is two terms, i e half a year (6 months), provided a student is willing to attend more than one school. However the diploma studies can be spread over a longer period, up to a maximum of three years.

STRUCTURE OF COURSES

Three Short Certificate Courses (subjects) are offered per term. The courses offered in the first term are repeated in the third term, and those offered in the second term are repeated in the fourth term.

ENROLMENT FOR COURSES

Students may enrol at any time of the year, and are therefore able to start a short certificate or diploma course in any term of the year (see closing dates for registration in the time tables).

ENROLMENT FOR A DIPLOMA COURSE

If a student elects to complete the diploma studies within a period of two terms (half a year), he/she must register for all six subjects for the next two terms. The three subjects of the next term for which he/she has enrolled will be offered first, and the remaining three in the following term.*

Should a student wish to spread his/her studies over a longer period, he/she may choose two or even one subject per term. The diploma studies will therefore take longer to complete, if the studies are spread over 3, 4, 5 or to a maximum of 12 terms (36 months).

* However, the School reserves the right to –

* postpone a student's registration for any subject to a subsequent term if a class in any subject is fully booked for a relevant term; or
* to postpone a subject to a following term if an insufficient number of entries for a specific term/subject are received.

NIGHT SCHOOLS

Night Schools are offered in Pretoria and Randburg. The courses run for eight consecutive weeks from 18:00 - 20:30, three evenings a week. Exams are written in the tenth week.

DAY SCHOOL

For those students unable to attend our night schools, a condensed day school is offered in Pretoria only. The courses run for eight half working days from 08:00 - 13:00 during two separate weeks , the first week early in the term and the second in the middle of the term. Exams are written in the tenth week with the evening classes.

SATURDAY SCHOOLS

For those students unable to attend our day or night schools, a Saturday school is offered in Johannesburg. The courses run for four consecutive Saturdays from 08:30 – 13:00. Exams are written in the tenth week with the evening classes in Randburg.
